Baise Travel Guide
City City in Guangxi province, China
Baise sits by the Youjiang basin and nearby karst hills; visitors arrive for river scenery, borderland markets, minority villages and the straightforward regional cuisine of Guangxi.
Why Visit Baise? #
Baise is best known for dramatic borderland scenery and revolutionary history that appeal to both nature lovers and history buffs. Nearby Detian Waterfall offers dramatic cascades on the China-Vietnam border, the Baise Uprising Memorial Hall records pivotal 20th-century events, and local Zhuang culture shows up in brocade, music and regional cuisine. Visitors often combine outdoor exploration with encounters with minority crafts and riverside villages.
Who's Baise For?
Baise sits amid rivers, karst hills and forested county areas; nearby Detian/Benxi-style waterfalls and cross-border river valleys offer scenic outings. The region is best for low-key nature exploration rather than developed national-park infrastructure.
Outdoor options include river boating, canyon walks and exploration of karst formations. Trails can be basic and more rustic than established tourist routes, so a local guide helps for tougher outings.
Local Guangxi and Zhuang cuisines emphasize rice-based dishes, river fish and spicy sauces. Markets and small restaurants serve regional specialties at very affordable prices compared with larger cities.
There are family-friendly scenic areas and short trails suitable for children, plus quiet riverside spots for picnics. Accommodations tend toward modest guesthouses and small resorts near major scenic points.

How to Get to Baise
Baise (百色) is served by a small regional airport (Baise Bama Airport, AEB) and by rail connections on the Nanning-Kunming corridor; Nanning Wuxu (NNG) is the nearest major international airport. Most arrivals from other Chinese cities come by high-speed train or intercity coach.
Baise Bama Airport (AEB): The small regional Baise Bama Airport serves flights to Nanning and a few other regional destinations. From the airport to Baise urban area taxis take about 25-40 minutes and cost roughly ¥40-¥80; there is usually an airport shuttle/mini-bus into town for about ¥10-¥25 that takes around 30-45 minutes depending on stops.
Nanning Wuxu International Airport (NNG): Nanning is the nearest major international airport and a common arrival point for overseas or long-haul travellers. From Nanning you can reach Baise by high-speed train or long-distance coach (see Train & Bus card). Expect a coach transfer to Baise to take roughly 3.5-5 hours and cost about ¥80-¥150; taking the high-speed train from Nanning to Baise South is faster (see Train section).
Train: Baise South (百色南站) is the newer high-speed station on the Nanning-Kunming corridor; high-speed trains from Nanning typically take around 2-3 hours to reach Baise South. Conventional services also call at Baise Railway Station (百色站) and are slower but may be cheaper; high-speed second-class fares are commonly in the ~¥100-¥180 range depending on service.
Bus: Long-distance coaches serve Baise from Nanning, Guilin and nearby Guangxi cities from the main Baise long-distance bus stations (百色汽车站 / 百色车站). Coaches to/from Nanning generally take about 3.5-5 hours and cost roughly ¥80-¥150; regional routes to nearby counties are cheaper and take less time.
How to Get Around Baise
Baise is easiest to reach by high-speed train for intercity travel, with Baise South station offering the best balance of speed and convenience; local buses and taxis handle most last-mile trips. For short stays, rely on taxis/Didi for convenience and buses for the cheapest travel - the downtown area is compact enough to explore on foot.
- High-speed rail (Baise South) (¥100-¥180) - Baise South (百色南站) is the main high-speed rail gateway on the Nanning-Kunming line. Trains from Nanning are the quickest intercity option and are comfortable with frequent departures; reserve tickets in peak seasons. Station facilities are straightforward but plan 30-45 minutes extra for bag checks and transfers to the town center.
- Conventional rail (Baise Railway Station) (¥20-¥100) - Baise Railway Station (百色站) serves slower conventional trains that link regional towns and some longer-distance overnight services. Tickets are cheaper than high-speed but journeys take much longer - useful if you're on a budget or need a direct connection not served by HSR. Check schedules in advance because services are less frequent.
- Intercity coach / Long-distance bus (¥30-¥150) - Baise's long-distance bus stations run frequent coaches to Nanning, Guilin and neighbouring Guangxi counties. Coaches are often the most flexible option for places not directly served by rail; expect basic comfort and occasional stops. Buy tickets at the bus station or via local apps, and allow extra time in peak holiday periods.
- Local public buses (¥1-¥3) - Local city buses cover Baise's districts and nearby suburbs at low cost and are the cheapest way to get around for short journeys. Routes are in Chinese and stops are not always obvious to non-Chinese speakers, so have a map or show your destination name in characters. Buses can be slow during rush hours but are reliable and very inexpensive.
- Taxi & ride-hailing (Didi) (¥10-¥80) - Taxis and Didi are widely available and convenient for door-to-door trips, airport runs and late-night travel when buses stop. Fares are modest compared with big Chinese cities - short rides in town are inexpensive but agree or confirm fare/tariff in-app for longer trips. Expect slightly higher charges for airport pickups and during peak times.
- Walking - Baise's central districts are compact enough to explore on foot - walking is the best way to see local markets and streetscapes up close. Pavements can be uneven in places and signage may be limited in English, so carry a map and watch for traffic when crossing main roads.
