Sanjiang Dong Minority Autonomous County Travel Guide

Sanjiang County belongs to Liuzhou City in Guangxi Province and is one of only five Dong minority autonomous counties in China. It is home to the largest population of the Dong people.

It boasts distinctive Dong houses, buildings and culture and is one of the best places in the country to visit if you want to learn more about this ethnic group. There are not many sights to see here although the drum towers and wind and rain bridges are must-sees. Each village in the region basks in its own historical importance and many of them date back to the 2nd century AD.

The towers are prime examples of the skills of the Dong people when it comes to architecture and every village within the county has at least one drum tower. They are used for village meetings among other purposes.

The wind and rain bridges span many rivers in the region and are mostly well preserved. The bridges are the only way the Dong people can cross the river and are used for people and livestock. Other important sites worthy of a visit include the Sanwang Palace and the Ancient Banyan Tree in the Liangkou Scenic Area.
