Western Coast & Banjul (Banjul, Serekunda, Bakau, Tanji)

November brings clear, dry days and cooling nights thanks to the retreat of the rains; Serekunda and Banjul are lively again with markets fully operational and better conditions for small-boat excursions. The humidity drops noticeably, making walking city streets and the Bakau botanical garden pleasant; this is one of the most agreeable months for travel. Pack a light layer for early mornings and sunscreen for strong midday sun.

Lower River & Estuary (Kuntaur, Tanji estuary, river islands)

November is a transition to dry season: the river is lower, channels clearer and mosquito numbers drop significantly compared with the wet months. This is one of the best times for comfortable boat trips and village visits; birdwatching along the exposed mudflats is excellent. Pack sun protection and a light jacket for cooler mornings, and expect smoother travel with fewer cancellations.

Central River & Janjanbureh region (Janjanbureh/Georgetown, Kuntaur hinterland)

November delivers clear, dry days and cooling evenings across the central river region; rivers recede and many tributary tracks are passable again. This is a prime month for hiking, heritage tours around Janjanbureh and reliable boat trips without the wet-season inconveniences. Expect more visitors than in the rainy months; book accommodation in advance if you plan to stay in popular riverside guesthouses.

Upper River & Basse Santa Su (Basse, Sandu, far east)

November delivers clear, warm days and comfortably cool nights in the Upper River - ideal conditions for exploring Basse’s markets and nearby reserves. The Harmattan has not fully set in yet, so skies are generally clear and dust levels low compared with later winter. Pack sun protection and light layers for the large diurnal temperature swing.
