Nights are pleasantly cool compared with the wet season, so bring a light jacket for evenings by the sea.

Lower River & Estuary (Kuntaur, Tanji estuary, river islands)

December mornings along the lower river are pleasant and dry, with clear skies and cooling nights; the estuary’s exposed flats create good vantage points for photographers. The Harmattan may layer fine dust, particularly on windier days, but daytime travel is straightforward and boat trips are reliable. This is a favored time to explore local fisheries, mangrove edges and island communities before the seasonal rains begin to return.
