Caspian Coast (Türkmenbaşy & Awaza)

August is the warmest month but remains tempered by onshore winds; temperatures are often pleasant in the morning and evening but sun exposure can be intense at midday. Coastal restaurants and promenade life are in full swing, and short boat trips are the easiest way to enjoy the sea. Stay hydrated, use strong sunscreen, and avoid strenuous activity at midday.

Kopet Dag Foothills & Ashgabat

August remains hot and very dry across the foothills and in Ashgabat; afternoons can feel oppressive in the city but shaded mountain tracks are a relief. Local pools and irrigated gardens provide cooling pockets; cultural sites are less crowded early and late in the day. Carry sunscreen and light, breathable clothing and avoid long treks at midday.

Central Karakum Desert & Darvaza (Gas Crater)

August continues summer extremes; the desert is dry, dusty and punishing in daylight but comfortable enough after sunset to sit by the crater and watch the glow. Roadside services are at their most sparse, so plan fuel and provisions carefully. Bring a sun hat, long-sleeved shirts to prevent sunburn, and strong hydration measures.

Oases & Amu Darya Valley (Mary & Merv)

September brings real relief as the sun’s intensity eases; mornings are cool enough for extended site visits and afternoons remain warm but manageable. The post-summer clarity makes for good visibility across the plains and archaeological complexes. A light jacket for evenings and midweight daywear will cover variable conditions.
