Seniwati Gallery of Art by Women Museum

The Balinese town of Ubud is one of Indonesia’s cultural hotspots, dense with museums, temples, shrines and galleries. Among them, the Seniwati Gallery of Art by Women stands out for its singular mission: to promote and showcase the work of women artists from Bali and across Southeast Asia. The name itself combines the Indonesian words seni (art) and wati (women).

Established in 1991, the gallery has grown substantially and spreads across three spaces on its site. The permanent collection of paintings, both traditional and modern, hangs in the Lotus Pond Gallery. The Rice Fields, the second largest space, offers works for sale, while the Banana Grove Gallery displays children’s artwork that visitors shouldn’t overlook.

The gallery also runs a children’s school, studio art courses and a gift shop stocked with souvenirs, handicrafts and paintings, making it one of the most engaging galleries in Ubud.
