About Threads of Life#
Tucked along Jalan Kajeng in the heart of Ubud, the Threads of Life Indonesian Textile Arts Center is a small museum and gallery dedicated to preserving the country’s traditional weaving. As modernity steadily erodes older crafts, this quiet institution keeps the art of the loom alive, teaching and exhibiting hand-woven ikat and other Indonesian textile traditions.
Founded by an Englishman who devoted his life to Indonesian weaving, the center doubles as a shop. Though compact, it holds a genuinely interesting collection of ikats and shirts, the finest of which command prices in the millions of rupiah. Beyond browsing, visitors can join workshops and courses covering the basics of traditional textile art and weaving methods.
Originally a working studio and shop, the whole place can be seen comfortably within an hour, though it can grow busy when tour buses arrive.

- Getting there: From Denpasar, a taxi is the cheapest and most convenient option. Within Ubud, the center is easily reached by taxi or on foot.
