Unlike any other museum in Bali, the Blanco Renaissance Museum is devoted to Antonio Blanco, a Spanish-born expatriate and one of the island’s most eccentric and celebrated artists. Visitors come from around the world to see the displays and the “life museum” of this intriguing character.
Though Blanco has long since died, his home has been transformed into a mansion-studio museum showcasing both his own work and that of his talented son, Mario. It occupies a beautiful hilltop spot in the western Ubud village of Campuan, set among lush tropical grounds with landscaped gardens and pockets of jungle; several species of birds live on the site as an added attraction.
Beyond the paintings, statues and sculptures are scattered across the grounds, and a temple honouring the Blanco family stands within the museum’s gardens.
