Terai & Southern Plains (Chitwan, Lumbini, Biratnagar)

October brings the clearest, driest weather of the year in the Terai: warm days in the mid-20s-low 30s°C and pleasantly cool nights, ideal for Chitwan safaris and outdoor temple tours in Lumbini. Festival crowds swell for Dashain and Tihar in towns, so book accommodation early if traveling then. Daylight is reliable, roads settle after the monsoon and this is widely regarded as the top month to visit the lowlands.

Kathmandu Valley & Central Hills (Kathmandu, Patan, Bhaktapur, Nagarkot)

October brings some of the best weather of the year: blue skies, low humidity, and crisp views of the Himalaya from places like Nagarkot and the Shivapuri ridge. This is peak tourist season with festivals and busy streets, so plan and book accommodation early; the trekking season is at its height with excellent trail conditions. Pack layers for cool mornings and evenings but expect warm, sunlit afternoons ideal for sightseeing.

Pokhara, Annapurna & Western Hills (Pokhara, Poon Hill, Annapurna Circuit lower sections)

October is widely regarded as the best month: crisp, clear skies and cool mornings provide superb views of the Annapurna massif and comfortable daytime temperatures in the mid-teens to low 20s°C. Hiking crowds increase and teahouses book up, so secure permits and lodgings in advance; Poon Hill and Ghorepani are particularly busy at sunrise. Bring layered clothing for cool mornings, a sunhat for warm days, and book domestic flights early.

Mustang & Trans-Himalaya (Upper Mustang, Muktinath, Jomsom)

October is prime time: clear skies, low humidity and stable conditions produce outstanding views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and the Trans-Himalayan landscape; daytime temperatures are moderate and nights are cool but not frigid. The trails are dry and dust-free after the monsoon, making long ridge walks pleasant and reliable. Carry warm layers for nights and expect permit controls and higher accommodation prices as tourist numbers peak.
