High / low are average daily temperatures (°C). “Feels” reflects how hot or cold it feels, allowing for humidity.
Terai & Southern Plains (Chitwan, Lumbini, Biratnagar)
March brings palpable warming across the Terai: mid-20s to low-30s°C by midmonth and humidity still modest before the pre-monsoon rise. The plains smell of new growth and mustard blooms near Rupandehi; Holi celebrations add dust and color in towns, so expect crowded streets and lots of party-related dirt and water. For river rafting and wildlife safaris this is an ideal window - light clothing for the day and a thin jumper for early starts.
Kathmandu Valley & Central Hills (Kathmandu, Patan, Bhaktapur, Nagarkot)
March awakens the valley: mild days in the high teens to low 20s°C and rhododendron and mustard blooms color nearby trails toward Shivapuri and Phulchowki. Holi brings flamboyant street color and energy that makes city wandering joyful but messy, so be prepared to get wet and dusty. Trekking into the lower ridges becomes very pleasant, yet pre-monsoon winds and occasional dust storms can reduce visibility at times.
Pokhara, Annapurna & Western Hills (Pokhara, Poon Hill, Annapurna Circuit lower sections)
March marks a very pleasant transition: daytime highs often reach the high teens-low 20s°C in Pokhara while rhododendron blooms color the Annapurna foothills and trails become lively. Trekking into lower Annapurna regions is excellent now, and local festivals enliven village life - but expect increasingly busy teahouses as international trek groups arrive. A windproof layer is useful for exposed ridgelines and mornings are still chilly.
Mustang & Trans-Himalaya (Upper Mustang, Muktinath, Jomsom)
March brings a slow warming and stronger sunlight, with snow line retreating and dusty trails clearing - prime time for early-season crossings for fit trekkers. Winds still blow, particularly in passes and along the Kali Gandaki gorge, but daytime temperatures become much more agreeable for trekking mid-elevation routes. This shoulder month offers fewer crowds than the autumn season; bring warm layers for nights and a windproof shell.
