Terai & Southern Plains (Chitwan, Lumbini, Biratnagar)

June is in the heart of the wet season: long, heavy rains and high humidity dominate, with frequent localized flooding in the plains and occasional interruptions to train and bus services. Mosquito activity spikes; planning around park operations in Chitwan is essential as some trails close and wildlife viewing moves to higher ground. If you travel, aim for sunny breaks for boat safaris on the Narayani and carry waterproof gear and insect protection at all times.

Kathmandu Valley & Central Hills (Kathmandu, Patan, Bhaktapur, Nagarkot)

June begins the monsoon in the valley with regular heavy showers and thundery spells that can reduce visibility to zero for mountain viewing; daytime temperatures moderate to the low 20s°C but humidity is high. Landslides on hill roads can delay buses to the surrounding trekking trailheads and domestic flights are often postponed due to low cloud. For urban travelers, museums and temples are quieter and good wet-weather shoes and waterproof covers for bags are essential.

Pokhara, Annapurna & Western Hills (Pokhara, Poon Hill, Annapurna Circuit lower sections)

June ushers in the full monsoon with intense rains and cloud that obscure mountain vistas; Pokhara receives frequent heavy downpours and river levels rise, affecting low bridges and trails. The Annapurna foothills turn lush but muddy; landslides can close sections of road and make bus travel slow and unpredictable. If you must travel, accept schedule flexibility and choose sturdy waterproof footwear and a reliable waterproof cover for gear.

Mustang & Trans-Himalaya (Upper Mustang, Muktinath, Jomsom)

June sees the main plains and lower hills enter monsoon, but Mustang largely stays dry thanks to its rain-shadow position - occasional high-altitude snow flurries are possible but uncommon. The advantage is fewer dramatic downpours and generally stable hiking conditions compared with other regions, though mountain passes can still experience sudden weather swings. This is a good month for longer circuits, but be prepared for remote logistics and strong sun exposure.
