Terai & Southern Plains (Chitwan, Lumbini, Biratnagar)

April becomes distinctly hot in the lowlands with daytime temperatures commonly 30-36°C in areas like Chitwan and Lumbini; humidity begins to increase toward the month’s end. This is the hottest period before monsoon; midday siestas are sensible and early-morning wildlife excursions are far more pleasant. Roadside dust and urban heat in Biratnagar can be oppressive; carry sun protection, a refillable water bottle, and be prepared for sporadic thunderstorms late in the month.

Kathmandu Valley & Central Hills (Kathmandu, Patan, Bhaktapur, Nagarkot)

April sees noticeably warmer temperatures-often mid-20s°C in Kathmandu-while humidity begins to rise in the afternoons as pre-monsoon showers grow more frequent. Trails toward Nagarkot and Dhulikhel become dusty; this is peak flowering season so the valley looks verdant, but early-May trekking permits and domestic flights fill up. Bring sunscreen for strong UV, and expect dust and increased traffic during pilgrimages.

Pokhara, Annapurna & Western Hills (Pokhara, Poon Hill, Annapurna Circuit lower sections)

April warms significantly before monsoon; clear mornings and warm afternoons (mid-20s°C) make Pokhara a popular base for paragliding and lake activities, while the lower circuit trails become flowering and lush. Pre-monsoon thunderstorms grow more common late in the month and mountain views may start to haze from dust or distant smoke. Book treks and flights early and bring sunscreen, a light rain jacket and breathable layers for hot afternoons.

Mustang & Trans-Himalaya (Upper Mustang, Muktinath, Jomsom)

April turns noticeably milder and the plateau comes alive with scrub flowers; daytime warmth makes Mustang pleasantly walkable while nights remain cool. Spring dust storms can occur but visibility is often excellent for views of the rain-shadow canyon and Tethys-like landscape. Pilgrims begin returning to Muktinath for festivals and guesthouses reopen fully - carry sun protection, a warm hat for evenings, and expect variable winds on exposed ridgelines.
