Northern Highlands (Irbid, Ajloun, Jerash)

The first real drop in temperature for months is usually noticeable this month as highs fall back into the twenties and nights become distinctly fresher. Occasional early-season showers can appear late in September, refreshing the soil and making the air smell of thyme and wild herbs. Tourist numbers ease compared with peak season, so it’s a pleasant time for longer walks and photography without the summer heat.

Central Highlands (Amman, Madaba, Salt)

Early autumn cools Amman noticeably: September days are comfortable in the mid-to-high twenties while evenings are crisp, a good season for exploring neighborhoods like Jabal al-Lweibdeh. Occasional late-summer showers are possible but rare; the city’s outdoor markets and archaeological sites are at their most pleasant. A light jacket is useful after sundown and the pace of tourism starts to pick up again.

Jordan Valley & Dead Sea

October often delivers the valley’s most pleasant weather: warm, sunny days in the low to mid-twenties and cool, clear nights ideal for starry desert outings. Many travelers choose this month for hiking in nearby wadis and for spa visits, when the heat is gone but the water remains warm. Pack a light fleece for nighttime and a hat for daytime excursions.
