Northern Highlands (Irbid, Ajloun, Jerash)
The first real green of the year appears now as hilltop oak and pistachio scrub respond to spring sun, and temperatures climb towards the high teens to low twenties. Occasional khamsin dust events from the south can make some days dry and hazy, especially later in the month, but most mornings remain clear and good for visiting Jerash’s ruins. Trails up to Ajloun Castle are pleasant though often still muddy in shaded gullies; hiking boots and a light windproof layer are sensible.
Central Highlands (Amman, Madaba, Salt)
By March Amman’s streets warm and clear more often; daytime temperatures climb toward the mid-to-high teens, making hilltop walks and the Citadel far more pleasant. Khamsin dust events can interrupt otherwise mild days, coating terraces and reducing visibility, so carry a scarf for itchy eyes. The surrounding hills start greenening and outdoor markets pick up pace - a great time for exploring Salt’s limestone streets before the summer heat.
Jordan Valley & Dead Sea
Early spring days warm noticeably in March, moving into the mid-twenties with low humidity and clear visibility toward the Jordan River and agricultural terraces. Flood risk decreases though sudden showers may still arrive from north-moving fronts; the Dead Sea’s saline shoreline is ideal for a floating dip, but bring water and shade for long midday stays. This is a fine time for cycling and short hikes in the valley margins.
