Danau Maninjau is a large volcanic caldera lake in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, Indonesia. The lake occupies a caldera formed by a past volcanic eruption and is noted for its steep rim and broad, water-filled basin.
A paved road runs along the rim and offers multiple viewpoints over the lake; the rim road and surrounding highland villages are popular with visitors for views, photography and outdoor activities. The route from Bukittinggi/Agam regency descends steeply to the lake with many hairpin turns; there are roadside parking areas and short walks from villages and viewpoints down to the lakeshore. Public minivans/buses run between Padang, Bukittinggi and the towns around the lake for those not driving.
