Representative figures from each country's largest city. High / low are average daily temperatures (°C); “Feels” allows for humidity.
Western Asia & the Middle East (Turkey, Levant - Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Arabian Peninsula - Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Yemen)
Rain returns to the Levant and western Turkey as the Mediterranean storm track reasserts itself; Istanbul sees more wet days and Iran’s northern slopes begin to get rain and early mountain snow. The Arabian Peninsula remains dry and warm but with cooler nights; coastal Oman can experience short, intense storms. This month is useful for lower hotel rates in coastal cities but bring waterproof footwear for winter rains.
Central Asia & the Caspian Steppe (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan)
Cooling continues and the first frosts return to high plateaus and northern steppe by night; Almaty and Bishkek see autumn color in the hill country, while Tashkent enjoys chill-free daytime touring. Road surfaces can be clear but wet at night as temperatures swing; backpackers should plan for shorter daylight hours and possible early closures of some mountain lodges. Winter clothing should be accessible in luggage.
Siberia & the Russian Far East (Yakutia/Sakha, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Kamchatka, Vladivostok and Magadan)
First deep snows spread across large swathes of Siberia, with interior temperatures falling quickly and only essential transport continuing in remote areas; many wilderness trails close. Kamchatka experiences heavy early snow at high elevations, affecting helicopter access to volcanos. Travelers should plan for limited services in rural areas and ensure accommodations provide reliable heating.
The Himalaya & Tibetan Plateau (Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet/Autonomous Region, Sikkim and northern Indian ranges)
Early freezing begins on higher trails, with snow returning to the highest passes and cold nights across the plateau; valley towns still enjoy clear, sunny days for sightseeing in places such as Kathmandu and Thimphu. Trekking is still excellent on lower trails, but plan for potential early closures at altitude. Travelers should carry warm sleepwear and be ready for large daily temperature swings.
South Asia (India excluding high Himalaya, Pakistan lowlands, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives)
Temperatures begin their winter slide in the north with cool nights and crisp days ideal for sightseeing; Rajasthan and Delhi are particularly pleasant. Tropical southern India and Sri Lanka remain warm but usually dry and pleasant for beaches. The winter tourism season is getting underway - expect higher prices and a busy calendar of cultural events and festivals across the region.
East Asia (China - coastal and central provinces, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan)
Cooler temperatures set in across northern Japan and Korea with crisp, bright days and frosty nights possible at higher elevations; Beijing experiences chilly mornings. Southern China and Taiwan move into a pleasant shoulder season with reduced rain and milder temperatures. This month is ideal for cultural touring with fewer summer insects and comfortable daytime walking conditions.
Southeast Asia (Mainland: Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar; Maritime: Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Borneo, Timor)
Dry-season conditions are well established across the mainland and Bali-dominant Indonesian tourism increases; beaches in Thailand’s west coast and southern Myanmar become reliably sunny. The Philippines’ typhoon season can still trigger localized storms but many central island chains see pleasant conditions. Expect higher prices and busier resorts; book accommodation early and bring sun protection.
