Country Weather in July

Country High Low Rain UV Feels

Representative figures from each country's largest city. High / low are average daily temperatures (°C); “Feels” allows for humidity.

Western Asia & the Middle East (Turkey, Levant - Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Arabian Peninsula - Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Yemen)

Heat builds quickly across the peninsula and interior Anatolia, with daytime highs climbing in places such as Riyadh, Baghdad and Tehran; coastal Levant and western Turkey stay warm and pleasant for sightseeing. Dust events become more frequent in Iraq and eastern Turkey as soils dry out; visitors should bring sunglasses and a face covering for dusty conditions. Crowds increase at Red Sea and Gulf resorts as Europeans seek early summer sun.

Central Asia & the Caspian Steppe (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan)

The plains and desert basins are hot and dry, often the hottest stretch of the year in places like Ashgabat and the Karakum; shade and siesta-style pacing make exploration tolerable. High-altitude refuges - the Tien Shan and Pamir ranges - offer cooler conditions and are at their outdoor-activity peak with wildflowers and long daylight. Popular trekking routes are busy; book guides and permits in advance and expect very hot conditions in cities.

Siberia & the Russian Far East (Yakutia/Sakha, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Kamchatka, Vladivostok and Magadan)

Late summer maintains comfortable warmth in the south with flourishing vegetation and excellent river cruising conditions on the Lena and Amur; northern latitudes enjoy nearly continuous daylight for fieldwork and wildlife watching. Kamchatka may see sudden rain squalls and is a hotspot for brown-bear viewing. For overland travelers, this is the most reliable month for road access before fall rains begin.

The Himalaya & Tibetan Plateau (Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet/Autonomous Region, Sikkim and northern Indian ranges)

For the Tibetan Plateau, summer brings clear skies, short grasslands and optimal conditions for high-altitude road journeys; however, the southern slopes of the Himalaya (Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim) are in monsoon with heavy, persistent rains, leeches in lower trails, and a high risk of landslides. This month suits high-altitude pilgrimage circuits on the plateau but is challenging for southern treks. Pack waterproofs and be flexible with schedules.

South Asia (India excluding high Himalaya, Pakistan lowlands, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives)

Monsoon influence starts to retreat across parts of the west and north, but heavy rain remains common in eastern and northeastern sectors and Bangladesh; southern India and Sri Lanka still see patchy showers. The heat and humidity are still high in urban centers, but landscape colors and waterfalls are at their fullest, which is appealing for nature photography. Maintain flexible plans for river crossings and check local weather advisories.

East Asia (China - coastal and central provinces, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan)

Hot, humid conditions are common across much of East Asia with frequent thundershowers; coastal regions of China and southern Japan can be sweltering and sticky, while cooler sea breezes temper parts of Kyushu and Korea. Typhoons are most likely from late summer into early autumn - this can affect flights and ferries, especially to island destinations. For city travel, expect heat and plan indoor lunch breaks in air-conditioned spaces.

Southeast Asia (Mainland: Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar; Maritime: Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Borneo, Timor)

By late summer some regions begin to see a reduction in rainfall intensity; however, monsoon downpours persist across mainland areas and the Philippines can still be impacted by typhoons. The South China Sea influences weather for Vietnam’s central coast - beach itineraries can be disrupted by storms. This is a shoulder season for bargains, but expect transfer complications and wet trekking conditions in jungles.
