Victory Beach Beach

Victory Beach is the northernmost of the developed beaches on the Sihanoukville peninsula. The area is really a pair of beaches separated by a headland where the Victory Monument stands, together with a small “town” on top of Victory Hill, also known as Weather Station Hill. The southernmost end of Victory Beach is known as Hawaii Beach.

A combination of white sand and cheap accommodation once made Victory Beach and Hill a haven for backpackers in Sihanoukville’s early post-war tourism years. Over time the hilltop “town” declined into a red-light district of sorts, and budget travellers drifted towards Serendipity Beach; the hilltop still holds a scattering of hotels, restaurants and a convenience store with an ATM, but the establishments are of questionable quality and it is a 10 to 20 minute walk up or down between the beach and most guesthouses.

The beaches themselves remain pleasant. With a rented motorbike it is worth driving along the coast through Victory Beach to see the sand, the monument and a few other statues on the way to the port just to the north. A sunset cocktail at the Airport Bar or a stroll on the pier, where local children and fishermen gather, rounds out a visit.

Victory Beach is on Cambodia’s southern coast, reachable by road from Kampot (approximately 30-60 minutes depending on exact location) or Kep. Private taxis or motorbike hires are typical; public buses and local transport offer limited access. Roads may be rough in places, especially in the wet season.

• South-west winds can be strong in late afternoon; check local weather before swimming.
• Combine with coastal drives to nearby Kep or Kampot for accommodations and food options.
