Sudan in November: Weather, Crowds & What to Expect

Northern Desert & Nile Valley (Wadi Halfa, Dongola, Meroe)

Come November, sunlit days feel warm but not oppressive and nights are pleasantly cool - a prime time for archaeology, desert treks and Nile cruising without the intense heat or dust of summer. Popular sites draw the bulk of Sudan’s few foreign visitors, so accommodations in Wadi Halfa or near the pyramids can fill; book ahead if you want guided tours. Pack light layers for evening riverside breezes.

The Khartoum & Central Nile Corridor (Khartoum, Omdurman, Wad Medani, Gezira)

November is reliably sunny and warm with cooling evenings-an excellent time for visiting Khartoum’s riverfront, Omdurman markets and arranging day trips into the Gezira or to sites like Sennar. The Nile cruise season is underway in earnest and accommodations are at a stable level; pack light clothes plus a sweater for night. Tourist services are steady and roads are in good shape.

Kordofan & Darfur (El Obeid, El Fasher, Nyala, Jebel Marra)

November is reliably dry and pleasant for travel, with moderate daytime heat and crisp nights that make camping on higher ground appealing. The post-rain green lingers in places, and dusty conditions are not yet at their spring peak. This is a good time for extended overland treks and visiting rural markets while services are still stabilised after the rains.

Blue Nile, South Kordofan & the Southern Agricultural Belt (Damazin, Sennar, Roseires)

November is warm and dry with excellent conditions for exploration: days are sunny and pleasant with cooler nights, and the post-monsoon freshness lingers in the fields. Tourist logistics are generally reliable and portage around the dams is straightforward. Pack light clothing for the day and a sweater for evening riverbanks and early-morning starts.

Red Sea Coast & Eastern Highlands (Port Sudan, Suakin, Kassala, Red Sea Hills)

November brings pleasantly warm weather on the Red Sea with calm seas and excellent underwater visibility-prime time for diving and island cruises. Kassala is warm during the day but far less oppressive than in summer, and the Red Sea Hills offer good hiking windows. This is one of the better months for combining coast and lowland hill travel, so book dive trips early.
