Northern Desert & Nile Valley (Wadi Halfa, Dongola, Meroe)
Clear, dry air and very comfortable daytime temperatures make February one of the best months for desert travel. Dongola and the northern Nile banks warm into the mid-20s Celsius by day while nights remain crisp; this is an ideal time for archaeology tours to the pyramids at Meroe and cruise starts from Wadi Halfa. Roads and tracks are firm, so expect easier 4x4 access and little risk of washouts.
The Khartoum & Central Nile Corridor (Khartoum, Omdurman, Wad Medani, Gezira)
February stays very pleasant with clear, dry skies and warm afternoons that suit riverfront cafés and Nile boat trips between Khartoum and Omdurman. The Gezira plains around Wad Medani are busy with agricultural work and visibility is excellent for visiting sugar-cane and cotton areas. Light jackets are useful at night; daytime sun protection remains important.
Kordofan & Darfur (El Obeid, El Fasher, Nyala, Jebel Marra)
February delivers steadily warming days across Kordofan and Darfur, with comfortable temperatures for market visits in El Fasher and Nyala. The dry season keeps the landscape dusty but traversable, so 4x4 trips across the savanna are straightforward. Bring sun protection and extra water for longer drives-the countryside is still dry before the rains begin to rejuvenate rivers and wells.
Blue Nile, South Kordofan & the Southern Agricultural Belt (Damazin, Sennar, Roseires)
February continues mild and dry with warm afternoons ideal for walking along the Nile and visiting local markets in Sennar; the landscape starts to show early signs of seasonal change. This late-dry-season period is popular for river cruises because navigation is straightforward and mosquitoes are still modest. Bring sun protection and light layers for the cooler mornings.
Red Sea Coast & Eastern Highlands (Port Sudan, Suakin, Kassala, Red Sea Hills)
February sees continued mild coastal conditions and excellent visibility for diving at reefs off Port Sudan; mornings are calm and days warm into the mid-20s Celsius. Kassala’s Gash Delta area is dry and pleasantly warm by day, making visits to the town and nearby hills comfortable. Bring strong sun protection and a windbreaker for the occasional sea breeze on boat trips.
