How to Get to Sangre Grande

Sangre Grande is best reached overland from Piarco or Port of Spain - it's a regional bus/maxi taxi hub on Trinidad's eastern side. There are no rail options; road services handle all public transport.

By Air

Piarco International Airport (POS): Sangre Grande lies east of Port of Spain and is typically reached by road from Piarco (drive time ~35-60 minutes depending on route and traffic). Taxis and private transfers from Piarco are available; maxi taxis and buses also serve the Sangre Grande corridor.

A.N.R. Robinson International Airport (TAB): If coming via Tobago you’ll need to transfer to Trinidad by air or ferry, then travel overland to Sangre Grande - expect a significantly longer combined journey.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no passenger rail service in Trinidad.

Bus & Maxi Taxi: Sangre Grande is a regional hub with regular PTSC buses and maxi taxis linking it to Arima and Port of Spain. Services are frequent during daytime; fares are modest and travel time to Port of Spain is commonly 45-75 minutes depending on traffic and stops.

How to Get Around Sangre Grande #

Sangre Grande is the main service town for the island’s east and is easily walked in its center. It’s served by maxi-taxis and buses to surrounding villages and to larger towns; local taxis cover short trips within town and the surrounding region.

If you plan to visit rural areas, beaches or national parks, renting a car is the most flexible option because services outside the town center are infrequent.
