Muscat & the Batinah Coast (Muscat, Sohar, Barka)

Autumn brings comfortable weather in October with daytime temperatures averaging high 20s to low 30s°C and far lower humidity than summer. This is one of the best months for exploring forts around Rustaq, the fish market in Muttrah, and evening harbor walks. Crowds pick up again as regional visitors return; pack a mix of light clothes and a thin jacket for nights.

Musandam Peninsula (Khasab, Dibba, fjords & dhow cruises)

October brings very agreeable weather: warm days in the mid-20s°C, low humidity and steady sea conditions good for cruising and kayaking in the sheltered inlets. Mountain hikes are comfortable and roads to viewpoints are clear. Carry a light jacket for early starts and enjoy quieter harbors as regional school holidays thin out.

Hajar Mountains & highlands (Jebel Akhdar, Jebel Shams, Nizwa)

October is one of the best months for mountain travel - long, pleasant days and cool nights encourage multi-day treks and technical climbs on Jebel Shams. The risk of sudden heavy rain has dropped, and mountain villages host local markets in comfortable weather. Pack layered clothing, sturdy boots, and a warm mid-layer for evenings at altitude.

Interior Desert & Wahiba Sands (Sharqiyah Sands, desert wadis, Ras al Hadd approaches)

October sees excellent desert conditions: warm days in the mid-20s to low 30s°C and cool, comfortable nights make multi-day treks and stargazing highly enjoyable. This is a favorite time for camping and 4x4 expeditions into the Wahiba Sands and towards Ras al Hadd turtle beaches. Pack layered clothing and a light sleeping bag for cool nights.

Dhofar & Salalah Region (Salalah, Mirbat, khareef monsoon coast)

October marks a sharp return to dry, warm weather with clear skies, daytime highs in the high 20s to low 30s°C and excellent conditions for coastal diving and whale-watching. The landscape dries but still carries a washed, green feel in sheltered wadis. Pack light clothing for the heat and a snorkel mask for excellent underwater visibility offshore.
