Muscat & the Batinah Coast (Muscat, Sohar, Barka)

Seaborne humidity dominates June with daytime highs in the high 30s°C and sticky evenings - Muscat is hot and close to the sea. Occasional dust haze drifts from the interior; swimming is pleasant but the Gulf can be choppier with onshore winds some afternoons. Expect hotel rates to ease after the international travel highs and pack light clothing plus a good sunhat.

Musandam Peninsula (Khasab, Dibba, fjords & dhow cruises)

June sees summer heat arrive with daytime highs often in the low 30s°C; sea breezes help but boats may feel sticky on still days. Tourist numbers rise ahead of the khareef in the south; fishing and dolphin trips continue but expect fewer available slots as operators rotate crews. Bring light clothing and a sunhat for deck time.

Hajar Mountains & highlands (Jebel Akhdar, Jebel Shams, Nizwa)

June sees the lower Hajar become hot and dry while high-altitude trails retain cooling breezes: Jebel Akhdar stays pleasantly cooler than Muscat but direct sun is strong. Summer storms are rare here, though occasional convective showers can occur and make narrow tracks slippery. Hike early, carry ample water, and avoid exposed ridgelines in late-afternoon thunderstorms.

Interior Desert & Wahiba Sands (Sharqiyah Sands, desert wadis, Ras al Hadd approaches)

By June the desert is hot and dry with strong daytime heating; temperatures often exceed 40°C in open sand areas while nights stay warm. Sandstorms and mirage effects are more likely on windy days, and road dust can slow transfers. Plan dawn activities, travel in 4x4 convoys, and pack sunblock, sunglasses, and breathable layers.

Dhofar & Salalah Region (Salalah, Mirbat, khareef monsoon coast)

A dramatic change arrives in June as the khareef (southern monsoon) starts over the Dhofar coast: Salalah becomes cool, cloudy and often misty with frequent drizzle and low cloud lowering visibility inland. The landscape turns green and waterfalls begin to run; this is high season for locals and Gulf visitors seeking cooler climes. Bring waterproofs, a warm layer for cooler drizzle and expect busy roads to popular viewpoints.
