Muscat & the Batinah Coast (Muscat, Sohar, Barka)
Morning temperatures hold steady in February with daytime highs often in the mid-20s°C and humidity low compared with summer. This is a good month for city sightseeing and short coastal drives to Barka or Sohar; occasional frontal rain can make the Hajar slopes green. Pack a light rain jacket and layers for evenings, and expect fewer crowds than the khareef south.
Musandam Peninsula (Khasab, Dibba, fjords & dhow cruises)
Dawn light in February brings crisp air and good visibility for the sea canyons; daytime temperatures stay pleasant, often in the low 20s°C. This is prime time for dhow cruises and snorkeling off Telegraph Island when water clarity is usually excellent. Bring a windproof jacket for open-boat crossings, and expect fewer tourists than the south.
Hajar Mountains & highlands (Jebel Akhdar, Jebel Shams, Nizwa)
Frosty mornings continue through February at high elevations, with daytime highs commonly in the low-to-mid teens°C on the plateaus near Jebel Akhdar and Nizwa. The mountain air is clear and ideal for photography; some remote tracks remain muddy from winter precipitation. Pack a warm hat and gloves and prepare for sudden weather shifts on ridge walks.
Interior Desert & Wahiba Sands (Sharqiyah Sands, desert wadis, Ras al Hadd approaches)
Dawn in February is crisp and invigorating, perfect for long desert treks across the Wahiba Sands where mornings sit in the comfortable teens°C. By late morning the sun warms the dunes but the air is dry, so trekking is pleasant until around noon. Nights still require substantial layers in a desert camp, and winds can whip sand into gear, so protect electronics.
Dhofar & Salalah Region (Salalah, Mirbat, khareef monsoon coast)
February remains warm and dry with daytime temperatures similar to January and excellent visibility for snorkeling around Mirbat and the nearby reefs. This is part of the high season for sun, sea and diving; expect more domestic visitors on weekends. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and a hat for midday sun.
