How to Get to Klaksvík

Klaksvík is the main town on the island of Borðoy in Norðoyar and is reached overland from the Faroe Islands' sole international airport at Vágar (FAE). There is no rail service - most arrivals continue by scheduled bus, ferry or private transfer to reach the town.

From Vágar to Klaksvík you typically continue by road - there are scheduled buses that link the airport with Tórshavn and onward services to Norðoyar; travel to Klaksvík takes around 1-1.5 hours depending on connections. Taxi or private transfer from Vágar is faster but much more expensive.

(No other large airports serve Klaksvík directly): There are no other international airports serving Klaksvík; domestic helicopter links do not run as regular public scheduled services for passenger transfer to Klaksvík.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no national heavy-rail service to Klaksvík - the Faroe Islands’ public land links are road and ferry based rather than intercity rail.

Bus: Klaksvík is served by regional bus routes from Tórshavn and from other islands when ferry/tunnel connections are used. Journey times from Tórshavn are typically 30-50 minutes depending on route; fares are modest (regional single fares are inexpensive) but exact prices depend on the operator and ticket type.

How to Get Around Klaksvík #

Taxis exist but can be costly; dress for changeable weather and allow extra time for slower local services.
