Bissau & Coastal Lowlands

November marks the return of the drier season and slowly improving road conditions; coastal humidity drops and mornings feel noticeably fresher. Daytime highs reach the low 30s again, and Bissau’s ferry schedules firm up as seas calm; it’s a good time for island-hopping to Bolama or nearby fishing communities. Bring lightweight long sleeves against mosquitoes at dusk and be aware that some rural services resume after the rains.

Bijagós (Bissagos) Archipelago

November brings calmer seas and much-improved ferry reliability as the dry season starts; mornings are warm and breezy and late afternoons are excellent for boat trips to watch estuary life. Island lodges reopen after the rains and tourist services ramp up, making it a good month for visiting Orango’s hippos and the cultural communities on Bubaque. Mosquito activity begins to fall, but insect repellent is still wise at dusk.

Southern Mangroves & Rainforest (Tombali, Cacine)

November signals the start of the dry season here, with mornings noticeably drier and river levels falling, restoring access to many coastal settlements. Daytime heat rises gently and beaches become usable again for walking and shell-collecting; local markets reopen fully. It’s an excellent time for community visits and boat-based wildlife trips, though you should still carry repellant for early-evening mosquitoes.

Eastern Interior Savanna & Highlands (Gabú, Bafatá)

November ushers in the dry season with hot days and much drier air; dust returns and harmattan breezes may start late in the month. Temperatures can spike into the low-to-mid 30s Celsius, and water sources shrink - pack hydration supplies for longer treks. It’s an excellent time for accessing remote villages and savanna wildlife viewing when roads are reliable and insects are less aggressive.
