High / low are average daily temperatures (°C). “Feels” reflects how hot or cold it feels, allowing for humidity.
Grande Comore (Ngazidja) - Moroni & coastal lowlands
July’s steady southeast trades keep humidity low and the sea calm; daytime temperatures are comfortable in the mid-to-high 20s, while nights can dip into the high teens on exposed headlands. Whale-watchers will note increased chances in the wider Mozambique Channel (see Mohéli notes), and the clear air makes sunrise views over Moroni excellent for photography. Pack layers - warm mornings or cool nights on patios are common.
Mount Karthala & central highlands (Grande Comore interior)
July sees continued cool, dry conditions and clear skies that make the broad panorama from Karthala especially rewarding; volcanic features show up sharply in the sunshine. Night temperatures can be surprisingly low; a warm hat and insulated sleeping bag are recommended for overnight treks. Trails see less mud and the reduced mosquito presence makes forest camps more enjoyable.
Anjouan (Nzwani) - Mutsamudu, spice plantations & steep coasts
July offers cool mornings, sunny days and calm seas - ideal for island exploration and boat excursions around fringing reefs. The reduced mosquito presence and stable conditions are favorable for whale-watching cruises in the Mozambique Channel, while spice farms are dry and accessible for tours. Nights can be surprisingly cool on exposed terraces, so a warm layer is useful after sunset.
Mohéli (Mwali) & outer islets - marine park, turtles and quiet beaches
July is in the heart of the dry window; days are sunny, reef visibility is high and sea conditions are generally calm-perfect for diving the protected reefs and joining marine conservation excursions. Whale activity peaks slightly later, but sightings can begin now. Expect fewer mosquitoes and peaceful evenings: lodges can book up with small numbers of eco-tourists so reserve in advance.
