Grande Comore (Ngazidja) - Moroni & coastal lowlands

Late-season showers continue into April, though there are more long, sunny stretches; daytime highs still hover around 29-31°C, and the air feels thick from the accumulated seasonal humidity. Streets can be slick in Moroni after squalls, and many excursions inland become muddy and more arduous. If you’re timing travel for fewer crowds but warm weather, late April gives a balance - just keep flexible plans for sudden storms.

Mount Karthala & central highlands (Grande Comore interior)

April’s weather still leans wet, though there are more extended dry windows between showers; temperatures on the slopes are pleasant compared with the humid coast, often in the low-to-mid 20s Celsius. Trails slowly firm between rains, making multi-day treks more feasible than earlier months, but be ready for early-morning fog and late-afternoon squalls. Good waterproof boots and gaiters make a big difference here.

Anjouan (Nzwani) - Mutsamudu, spice plantations & steep coasts

April shows a subtle easing: heavy storms are still possible, but dry spells grow longer and are often warm enough for comfortable exploration of seaside villages. Beaches may still be rough after storms, but snorkeling can be pleasant in sheltered coves when water clears. Traveling by road becomes easier on firm afternoons, and small guesthouses begin to take advantage of quieter shoulder-season bookings.

Mohéli (Mwali) & outer islets - marine park, turtles and quiet beaches

April provides a few longer dry windows among the showers and the island’s lagoons start to clear up enough for decent snorkeling on calmer days. Sea turtles remain active on nesting beaches, and some operators may offer guided night walks to observe nesting under regulation. Ferry schedules become marginally more reliable late in the month, but always confirm crossings before booking onward travel.
