Alona Beach
Beach White-sand beach on Panglao Island, Bohol province
On Panglao Island, Bohol, Alona Beach offers white-sand shores, dive shops, snorkel trips and a compact strip of bars and restaurants serving beach tourism and diving.
Alona Beach is a white-sand shoreline on Panglao Island in Bohol, Philippines, known as a concentrated tourist strip of resorts, restaurants and dive operators. It serves as one of Panglao’s main gateways to nearby coral reefs and island dive sites.
The beachfront is lined with hospitality businesses and dive shops that offer snorkeling, scuba diving and boat trips to nearby islands such as Balicasag. Nightlife, dining and water-sport facilities are concentrated within a few hundred metres of the sand, and small coral outcrops and reef patches lie offshore.
Originally a fishing and local community shoreline, the area developed into a tourism centre over the late 20th and early 21st centuries as dive tourism and resort building expanded. Development has created a high density of visitor services along a relatively short stretch of coast.
Alona sits on the southwestern coast of Panglao Island in Bohol province, accessible by road from the island’s main ports and by road connections across the Panglao-Tagbilaran causeway. The nearest major transport hub is Tagbilaran City and Bohol-Panglao International Airport on Panglao Island.
- Island trips: Boat trips to nearby Balicasag Island and Pamilacan Island are commonly launched from the beach for diving and dolphin-watching excursions.
- Best time to visit: The dry season from roughly November through May gives the most reliable weather for diving, snorkeling and beach activities.
