Wildlife & Safaris in Africa

Africa invented the safari, and no other continent delivers wildlife on such an overwhelming scale. From the thundering wildebeest herds of East Africa to the elephant-thronged floodplains of the south, the great parks and reserves promise encounters with lions, leopards, rhinos, buffalo and elephant that no zoo or documentary can match. A single morning game drive can turn up a cheetah on the hunt, a herd hundreds strong, or a leopard draped in a fever tree.

The classic circuits fall into a handful of regions. East Africa, spanning Kenya and Tanzania, is built around the open grasslands of the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem and the annual Great Migration. Southern Africa, from Botswana’s Okavango waters to South Africa’s Kruger, tends to be more varied and, in places, more accessible. Each has its own rhythm, its own signature animals and its own best season for viewing.

Timing shapes everything. The dry season concentrates animals around shrinking waterholes and thins the vegetation, making sightings easier, while the green season brings newborns, migrant birds and dramatic skies. Whether you prefer a fly-in camp on a private concession or a self-drive adventure through a national park, these are the destinations that define an African safari.
