How to Get to Tremezzo#

Tremezzo on the western shore of Lake Como is best reached via Milan airports and then by train to Como, followed by a short ferry or bus to Tremezzo. The boat is the most pleasant and often most practical final leg of the journey.

By Air

Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP): MXP is a major international hub for the Lake Como area. From Malpensa take the Malpensa Express to Milano Centrale (~50 minutes, €13) then a Trenitalia/Trenord regional train to Como S. Giovanni (~40-45 minutes, €3-€6) and then boat or bus to Tremezzo. Total travel time from MXP to Tremezzo is typically 2-3 hours depending on connections.

Milan Linate (LIN) / Bergamo (BGY): LIN is closer to Milan city centre (shorter transfer to rail hubs); BGY (Orio al Serio) is an alternative with good budget connections - both require a rail/bus transfer via Milan to reach Como and then Tremezzo.

By Train & Bus

Train: From Milano Centrale take regional Trenord trains to Como S. Giovanni. From Como you can take a local boat (Navigazione Lago di Como) to Tremezzo (ferries and faster hydrofoils operate; crossing time varies 30-60 minutes depending on service) or a bus along the lakeside.

Bus / boat: The boat is one of the most scenic and practical ways to reach Tremezzo from Como; expect single‑ticket fares for the public ferry in the range of a few euros to around €8-€15 depending on route and type (slow ferry vs. fast service). Buses run around the lake but are slower and subject to road traffic.

How to Get Around Tremezzo#

Arrive via Milan (Malpensa/Linate) and take the train to Como, then transfer to a ferry for the scenic approach to Tremezzo. Boats are often the best and most enjoyable way to reach the town from Como.

  • Train (Milano-Como) (€3-€7) - Trenord and Trenitalia run frequent regional trains from Milano Centrale to Como S. Giovanni (about 40-50 minutes). Trains are punctual and the best option to reach the lakeside transport hub.
  • Ferry / boat (Navigazione Lago di Como) (€4-€15) - Public ferries and hydrofoils link Como with Tremezzo and other lake towns; services are more frequent in summer. Boats are scenic and avoid road traffic - ticket prices vary by route and boat type but typically fall in the single‑digit to low‑teens euro range.
  • Regional bus (€2-€6) - Buses connect Como with lakeside villages including Tremezzo; they are useful when boats are less frequent but can be slower due to road congestion. Buses are inexpensive and good for short hops.
  • Taxi / private transfer (€60-€150) - Taxis can pick you up at Como station or Milan airport and deliver you directly to your hotel in Tremezzo - convenient with luggage or for early/late arrivals. Expect significantly higher fares than public transport.
  • Car hire (€30-€80/day) - Driving from Milan or Malpensa gives full flexibility but parking in Tremezzo and narrow lakeside roads can be challenging in peak season. Allow time for scenic but slow stretches of road.
  • Walking - Tremezzo’s centre and lakeside promenade are compact and best explored on foot. Many villas, gardens and lakeside cafés are within easy walking distance.
