How to Get to Lenno#
Lenno on Lake Como is easiest reached via Milan’s airports (Malpensa, Linate or Bergamo) with rail to Como and a final ferry or bus to Lenno. Ferries are the recommended approach for direct lakeside access.
Milan Malpensa (MXP): Malpensa is the largest international airport for the Lake Como area. Take the Malpensa Express to Milano Centrale (≈50 minutes, ticket ≈ €13) then a Trenitalia or Trenord regional train from Milano Centrale to Como S. Giovanni (≈40-50 minutes, regional fares around €3-6); from Como you can catch a ferry to Lenno (≈40-60 minutes on the slower services, ferry fares typically €5-8).
Milan Linate (LIN) / Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY): From Linate take a bus or taxi to Milano Centrale (≈30-45 minutes, airport bus ≈ €6) then train to Como as above. From Bergamo, airport shuttles to Bergamo city or Milan Centrale connect with trains; total door-to-door travel times to Lenno are typically 1.5-2.5 hours depending on route and transfers.
Train: The standard rail route is Milano Centrale → Como S. Giovanni (Trenitalia/Trenord). From Como take the ferry to Lenno (ferry timetables vary seasonally) or a regional bus along the lake shore.
Bus / Ferry: Ferries on Lake Como connect Como, Bellagio, Menaggio and Lenno; fares depend on distance and type (slow/fast) - short crossings are inexpensive (single digits in euros). Regional buses serve the lake road (SS340) but ferries are often the more scenic and practical option for Lenno.
How to Get Around Lenno#
Lenno is best reached by rail to Como followed by a ferry; ferries offer the most pleasant and practical lakeside connections. For flexibility use a car, but expect parking limits in small villages.
- Ferry (Navigazione Lago di Como) (€5-15) - Ferries connect Lenno with Como, Bellagio and other towns on the lake; schedules are seasonal and many services reduce frequency in winter. Ferries are scenic and often the fastest lakeside option between towns.
- Train (Milano → Como) (€3-6) - Regional trains run from Milano Centrale to Como S. Giovanni; they’re frequent and inexpensive. From Como station transfer to the ferry terminal or local buses for Lenno.
- Bus (local) (€1.5-4) - Local buses run along the lake road (SS340) and connect lakeside villages. They are cheaper than ferries but can be slower in traffic; useful when ferries aren’t running.
- Taxi / Water taxi (€20-80+ (short/long trips)) - Taxis or private water taxis give door-to-door service to accommodation in Lenno and can save time with luggage, though they’re significantly more expensive than public services.
- Car rental (€40-90/day) - A car is useful for exploring the wider Como area, but parking in lakeside villages can be limited and ferries remain the easiest inter-village option. Roads are winding; plan extra time in high season.
- Walking - Lenno is small and best explored on foot; the lakeside promenade, Villa del Balbianello (nearby), and village centre are all walkable.
