Northern Taiwan (Taipei, Keelung, Yilan)

October is one of the best months for northern Taiwan: clear skies, mild days in the low 20s°C and pleasantly cool nights make Taipei and Keelung easy to explore on foot. Hikes at Yangmingshan and visits to Yehliu Geopark are particularly rewarding, with clearer sea views and fewer rain interruptions. Book ahead for popular weekend hot-spring towns because Taiwanese travelers also favor this season.

Central Taiwan & West Coast (Taichung, Changhua, Sun Moon Lake)

October is one of the best months here-mild, dry conditions suit cycling around Sun Moon Lake and walking the Taichung art parks. Clear air gives good visibility of the central range from lower foothills and makes for comfortable winery and tea plantation visits. Expect local weekends to be busier as domestic travelers take advantage of the calmer weather.

Southern Taiwan & Kenting (Kaohsiung, Tainan, Pingtung, Kenting Peninsula)

October is generally one of the most comfortable months in the south: warm daytime temperatures in the mid-20s°C, lower humidity, and calmer seas that suit diving and coastal hiking. Kenting is lively but not as crowded as summer peaks, and Pingtung’s agricultural markets hum with produce harvests. Expect reliable weather for long days outside and pleasant evenings for street-food strolls.

Eastern Taiwan & East Coast (Hualien, Taitung, Taroko Gorge, East Rift)

October is typically one of the best months: clear skies, mild temperatures and stable seas make Green and Orchid islands easy to reach and Taroko trails dry and safe. Paragliding at Luye and outdoor festivals in Taitung flourish. Expect comfortable evenings and fewer mosquitoes than summer, which is ideal for camping and seaside barbecues.

High Mountains & Central Range (Alishan, Yushan, Hehuanshan, Cross-Island Highways)

October is prime mountain season: stable weather, crisp air and excellent visibility make summit sunrises on Hehuanshan and Yushan rewarding. Daytime temperatures are cool and nights cold-bring a proper sleeping bag if staying in mountain huts. Trails are generally dry and less crowded than summer holidays, though popular lookouts still attract photographers on clear mornings.
