How to Get to Sutomore#
Sutomore is a coastal town on Montenegro’s Adriatic shore with rail access on the Belgrade-Bar line and good seasonal bus connections. The nearest airports are Podgorica (TGD) and Tivat (TIV); from either you typically continue by bus, train or taxi to Sutomore.
Podgorica Airport (TGD): Podgorica is the nearest major airport (about 45-60 minutes drive). From the airport you can take a taxi to Sutomore (~€30-€50, 45-60 minutes) or a combination of bus and train via Bar; direct public transfers are limited outside the summer season.
Tivat Airport (TIV): Tivat is closer for many coastal destinations but still requires a transfer; from Tivat to Sutomore expect roughly 60-90 minutes by road. Taxis cost approximately €40-€70; in summer there are private airport shuttles and bus services connecting to Bar and Sutomore.
Train: Montenegro’s coastal railway runs through Sutomore and Bar; Sutomore station is on the Belgrade-Bar line and provides direct regional trains to Bar and seasonal services along the coast. Travel times are short from Bar (a few minutes) and longer from Podgorica (around 1-1.5 hours).
Bus: Regional buses and intercity coaches serve Sutomore from Bar, Budva and Podgorica. Buses are frequent in summer; fares are modest (a few euros) and journey times vary: Bar-Sutomore ~10-20 minutes, Podgorica-Sutomore ~1-1.5 hours.
How to Get Around Sutomore#
Sutomore is best reached by coastal train or regional bus from Bar and Podgorica, with summer services more frequent. For flexibility use a taxi or rental car; inside town, everything is within easy walking distance.
- Train (€1-€6) - Sutomore has a rail station on the Belgrade-Bar coastal line; local trains run between Bar and Sutomore frequently in summer. Trains are a scenic and reliable option along the coast for short hops-check the national rail timetable for current schedules.
- Regional bus (€1-€8) - Buses connect Sutomore with Bar, Budva and Podgorica. In summer services are frequent; off-season timetables are reduced. Tickets are cheap and sold at kiosks or on board-expect short journeys of under an hour to nearby towns.
- Taxi / Transfer (€15-€80) - Taxis and private transfers are common for transfers from airports and for late or off-season travel when public options are limited. Fares depend on origin; from Podgorica airport expect around €30-€50 to Sutomore.
- Car (rental) (€30-€80/day) - Renting a car gives the most flexibility to reach beaches and nearby towns; coastal roads are well used and parking can be busy in peak season. Fuel and parking costs should be factored into budgets.
- Ferry / Boat excursions (€10-€50) - While Sutomore isn’t primarily a ferry hub, coastal boat excursions and day trips operate in summer from nearby ports (Bar, Budva). These are seasonal and ticket prices vary by route and operator.
- Walking - Sutomore is compact and very walkable: beaches, cafes and much of the town are within easy walking distance. Walking is the best way to explore the immediate seafront and local streets.
