Mahé - Victoria, Beau Vallon and West Coast

Calm sea conditions often arrive during the brief April inter-monsoon lull; mornings can be glassy and excellent for diving off Beau Vallon or early boat trips. Rain can still fall, but showers are more isolated and the air feels fresher after nights of cooling rain. This is a popular month for charter yachts and diving liveaboards because visibility improves and sea state is friendlier; pack snorkel gear, light layers and a sweater for cooler evenings near the shore.

Mahé Highlands - Morne Seychellois and upland trails

April often brings a palpable easing of wind and a bright, fresh feel after the heavier rains; cloud cover thins at higher altitudes in the mornings, creating clear windows for views from Morne Blanc and Copolia. The ground is still saturated, so expect mud but also spectacular green vistas and swollen waterfalls that are at their best for dramatic shots. This is a prime time for guided nature walks - bring sturdy boots, a warm fleece and rain protection for sudden showers.

Praslin & La Digue - Inner granitic islands and beaches

April’s calmer seas and thinner cloud cover make this an exceptionally pleasant month for snorkelling and diving off Praslin; Anse Lazio is especially tempting in gentle mornings. Rainfall is tapering from the wet season, and island vegetation appears exceptionally lush, with many flowering trees in bloom. Book boat trips early in the day to avoid afternoon showers; bring reef shoes and a light fleece for breezier mornings on La Digue.

Outer Islands & Atolls - Aldabra, Farquhar, Alphonse and more remote coralline islands

April’s calm inter-monsoon windows can be very attractive for visiting atolls; mornings are often glassy and ideal for landing at Alphonse or Farquhar and for observing seabird colonies without wind disturbance. Rain is still possible but often brief, and the combination of warm air and calmer seas makes this a preferred time for scientific expeditions and small-ship cruises. Ensure communications plans are in place and bring generous supplies of drinking water and sun care.
