San Agustin Church in Intramuros, Manila, is the oldest stone church in the city and a UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the Baroque Churches of the Philippines. The current masonry church was completed in the early 1600s and has retained much of its original fabric and decoration.

The carved stone altar, ornate ceiling paintings and a collection of colonial-era religious objects displayed in the adjoining museum. The building survived several earthquakes and wartime destruction that affected other structures in Intramuros.

The church was constructed and maintained by the Augustinian order during the Spanish colonial period and has functioned continuously as a parish and religious centre since the 16th and 17th centuries. The attached convent and museum document the church’s history and Spanish-era religious practice.

San Agustin Church stands inside the historic walled district of Intramuros in central Manila, close to the Plaza de Roma and other colonial-era sites; it is within walking distance of Manila Cathedral and government offices in the civic district.

San Agustin Church is inside Intramuros, Manila. The easiest way is by taxi or ride‑hail directly to Intramuros; by rail, use LRT‑1 (Carriedo/Central area) or LRT‑2 (Recto) and then walk or take a short jeepney/tricycle ride into Intramuros. The church is a short walk from Intramuros’ main gates and from nearby landmarks such as Fort Santiago and Rizal Park.

• Visit San Agustin Church right when the complex opens to avoid the mid-morning tour groups; combining the church visit with the San Agustin Museum ticket lets you see the sacristy, cloister and museum collections.
