How to Get to Banaue
Banaue (Ifugao Rice Terraces) is reached almost entirely by road. Most travellers travel overnight or by private van from Manila; there are limited regional flights to nearby airports that require lengthy road transfers.
Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Manila (MNL): Most visitors to Banaue begin in Manila. From MNL head to the terminals serving long‑distance bus departures (Cubao or Sampaloc); travel time to Banaue by road is long and typically handled by overnight buses or private vans. Airport→city transfers: airport taxis (PHP 300-600, 30-60 min) or airport bus/shuttle to Cubao.
Cauayan Airport (CYZ) / Tuguegarao (TUG) (regional): There are limited regional flights into nearby airports such as Cauayan (Isabela) or Tuguegarao; from these airports expect several hours of road travel to Banaue (driving 3-6+ hours depending on route). Taxis or hired transfers from regional airports are the practical option (fares vary widely).
Train: There is no direct intercity rail service to Banaue - the Philippine rail network does not serve this area.
Bus / Van: The standard public route is an overnight bus or private tourist van from Manila (Cubao or Sampaloc) to Banaue; journey time is usually 8-10 hours. Buses (Ohayami Trans and local operators) and tourist vans run nightly; fares commonly range PHP 500-900 for buses and PHP 1,200-2,500 for private/shared vans. Local jeepneys and tricycles provide onward transport from Banaue town to viewpoints and villages (short trips PHP 20-200).
How to Get Around Banaue #
Banaue township is compact and easy to walk, with most guesthouses, eateries and viewpoints clustered near the main road. For short hops within town, tricycles and motorbike taxis are the norm. To reach rice-terrace viewpoints and nearby villages you’ll use jeepneys, shared vans or hired drivers; longer-distance buses and vans run between Banaue and Bontoc/Sagada. Roads can be rough, so allow extra travel time and book transport in advance during high season.
