How to Get to Otdam Souriya#
Otdam Souriya (Takéo province) is reached most easily via Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH), followed by a land transfer by minivan, bus or taxi to Takeo. There is no direct passenger rail service; road connections from Phnom Penh are the practical option.
Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH): The main international gateway for southern Cambodia. From here Takeo province (where Otdam Souriya is located) is most commonly reached by bus/minivan or private taxi; road travel takes about 1.5-2 hours to central Takeo town depending on traffic.
Phnom Penh (domestic connections): There are occasional domestic flights to nearby provinces, but Phnom Penh is the practical arrival airport for Takeo-book onward land transport from the airport’s arrival hall.
Train: Cambodia’s rail network is limited; there is no direct passenger rail service to Takeo province. The national rail network centers on Phnom Penh and Battambang; rail is not a practical option for Otdam Souriya.
Bus / Minivan: Regular minivans and local buses run from Phnom Penh’s main bus stations (e.g., the eastern bus station) to Takeo and provincial towns. Local bus/minivan fares typically range from about 7,000-15,000 KHR (~$2-4) and the trip takes roughly 1.5-2 hours to central Takeo; a private taxi/minivan will be faster (about 1-1.5 hours) and cost more (negotiated rate).
How to Get Around Otdam Souriya#
Takeo province has no direct rail links; the practical approach is to fly into Phnom Penh (PNH) and take a shared minivan, bus or private taxi for the 1.5-2 hour road transfer. For local trips, motorbike taxis and shared minibuses work best.
- Domestic minivan / shuttle (7,000-15,000 KHR) - Shared minivans and shuttles between Phnom Penh and Takeo are common and the most convenient budget option. Minivan fares are typically about 7,000-15,000 KHR (~$2-4) and door-to-door shuttles take roughly 1.5-2 hours to the provincial centers; expect slightly longer for smaller villages.
- Private taxi / private transfer ($20-60) - Private taxis or hired vans are faster and more comfortable for groups or if you have luggage; travel time Phnom Penh-Takeo is about 1-1.5 hours depending on route. Negotiate or confirm a metered/flat fare in advance-expect several tens of US dollars for a private transfer to central Takeo.
- Motorbike taxi (moto) (500-5,000 KHR (local short trips)) - For the last mile inside rural areas, moto taxis are widely used and are inexpensive and nimble on secondary roads. Prices are short-distance and negotiated locally; helmets may not always be provided-use caution on wet or rough surfaces.
- Shared taxi / local bus (al. ‘remork’ and buses) (2,000-10,000 KHR) - Local buses and shared taxis serve village connections within Takeo province and between nearby towns. These are very low-cost but slower and less comfortable-schedules can be informal and vehicles stop frequently. Useful if you’re traveling on a budget and have flexible time.
- Walking - Villages and small towns in Takeo are generally compact and walkable once you arrive; expect short walks from main roads to local guesthouses and shops. Bring sun protection-shade can be limited.
