Mount Iriga sits on the island of Luzon in the Bicol Region. The nearest major city is Legazpi (about 35-60 km depending on route); buses and vans run from Legazpi to Iriga City. From Iriga City local jeepneys and tricycles serve villages at the mountain’s base. For independent travel, hire a local driver or guide to navigate rural roads and to arrange access to trailheads.

Tips for Visiting Mount Iriga

  • Visit early morning to see the crater lake at its calmest and catch local farmers tending rice paddies in the valley below.
  • Hire a local guide when exploring the forested flanks-paths can be poorly marked and some sections are sacred to nearby communities.
  • Respect local rituals: away from trails, certain ridges and groves may be regarded as taboo by elders.
