Ko Poda is a small limestone island off the coast of Krabi province, southern Thailand, known for a single broad white-sand beach and clear water that attract day-trip visitors. It is a compact island experience focused on beachgoing and snorkeling rather than extended infrastructure.

The island’s main draw is its beach and nearby coral reef areas suitable for swimming and snorkeling; visits are typically made on half-day or full-day boat trips from nearby tourist towns. There are no large resorts on the island, and visitor facilities are limited to basic amenities.

Ko Poda has been used primarily for recreational visits and beach access rather than permanent settlement, and its natural beach is the defining feature of most visits.

The island lies a short boat distance off the Krabi coast, accessible from Ao Nang and other local piers in the province.

  • Day-trip destination: Popular for short boat excursions from Ao Nang and nearby piers, the island is known for a single prominent white-sand beach and nearby snorkeling sites over fringing reefs.

How to Get to Ko Poda #

Ko Poda (Poda Island) is a small island off the coast of Ao Nang, Krabi. The usual way to get there is by long-tail boat from Ao Nang Beach or from the nearby Nopparat Thara/Railay beaches; boat trips are frequent and take roughly 15-30 minutes depending on sea conditions. Boats depart from the Ao Nang waterfront pier-walking distance from Ao Nang’s beachfront accommodation-and operators run return trips throughout the day.

Tips for Visiting Ko Poda #

  • Aim for the first longtail boats out from Ao Nang or Nopparat Thara (often before 09:00) to beat the mid-morning influx of speedboats and day-trip groups and get the main beach to yourself.
  • Plan a half-day rather than a full-day tour so you can time your visit for early morning snorkel conditions and return before the busiest late-morning/afternoon boat traffic.
  • Bring your own snorkel gear if you want reliable equipment - boat operators provide gear but good personal masks and snorkels make it easier to explore the nearshore reefs that most day-trippers only glimpse from the surface.

Visit Ko Poda between November and March for the clearest water and calmest boat conditions-weekends tend to be busiest.
