High / low are average daily temperatures (°C). “Feels” reflects how hot or cold it feels, allowing for humidity.
Northwest (East & West Azerbaijan, Ardabil, Tabriz)
July brings summer heat to the lower parts of the northwest - Tabriz can see very warm, dry afternoons, while Ardabil’s higher elevation keeps things pleasantly cooler. Thunderstorms are possible over the mountains but usually brief; pastoral areas are lively with shepherds moving flocks to summer pastures. Travelers should expect fewer mosques and bazaars to close midafternoon in heat; carry water and avoid strenuous midday hikes.
Caspian Coast & Alborz Foothills (Gilan, Mazandaran, Rasht, Chalus)
July heats up with high humidity making it feel warmer than thermometer readings along the shore; many Iranians head to Caspian resorts to escape southern heat, so coastal towns are busier. The Alborz foothills remain cooler but trails in wet canopies can be slippery; bring sturdy boots. Nights can be sticky; look for accommodation with fans or AC and prefer water-based activities early or late in the day.
Alborz Mountains, Tehran & the Central Plateau (Tehran, Mount Damavand, Dizin, Kashan)
July is peak summer on the plateau: cities such as Kashan and Esfahan are very hot and dry, often exceeding comfortable highs for sightseeing, while mountain resorts above Tehran are popular with locals escaping heat. Dust and low humidity can make afternoons harsh; plan indoor museum visits or leisurely evening promenades instead. Lightweight, breathable clothing and a flexible schedule are critical for comfort.
Zagros Mountains & Western Highlands (Kurdistan, Kermanshah, Lorestan, Hamedan)
July is hot in valley bottoms-Kermanshah can feel quite warm-while ridgelines and plateaus offer relief. Thunderstorms can develop over the mountains in late afternoons but are usually short-lived; they can, however, make unprepared trails treacherous. Expect rustic accommodation options in smaller towns and take precautions against sun exposure and dehydration when doing long mountain walks.
Central Plateau Deserts & Historic Cities (Isfahan, Yazd, Kashan, Kerman, the Dasht-e Kavir and Lut margins)
July is the plateau’s hottest month: daytime temperatures in Yazd and Kerman are extreme and outside activity is generally limited to early morning or night markets. Desert winds occasionally lift dust into the air but generally rainfall is absent; air-conditioned accommodations are a necessity for comfort. If planning desert trips, work with experienced operators who avoid midday travel and provide emergency water caches.
Persian Gulf & Gulf of Oman Coast (Bandar Abbas, Qeshm, Kish, Hormuz, Bushehr)
July is peak coastal heat with intense humidity that can restrict daytime sightseeing: Bandar Abbas, Bushehr and the islands become places for short early-morning excursions rather than prolonged daytime outings. Heat-related fatigue and dehydration are real risks so plan short activities and rely on AC for recovery. Boat services may be less comfortable in the hottest hours but still operate for early trips.
Southeast & Sistan-Baluchestan (Zahedan, Chabahar, Zabol)
July continues with the notorious Sistan winds and intense heat inland; dust storms can close small airports and make road travel hazardous. Chabahar’s sea breezes offer relative comfort and are the safer option for outdoor excursions. Travelers should take extreme care regarding hydration, avoid exposed desert travel during wind events and check weather and transport updates daily.
