Northern Sahara (Faya-Largeau and the sand seas)

November is comfortably cool and dry; early-morning temperatures routinely feel crisp and daytime weather is ideal for extended desert treks and photography of salt flats and eroded buttes. Haboobs are far less common and the sky is frequently clean, making celestial viewing excellent at night - a treat if you’re camping away from lights. Carry warm night layers and a light windproof for the occasional chill.

Tibesti Mountains (Bardaï and Emi Koussi)

November is firmly in the cool season: morning frost at higher elevations becomes common and the daylight window for comfortable trekking narrows to mid-morning and late afternoon. Clear skies and low humidity give excellent long-distance visibility across the volcanic cones, making travel logistically straightforward if chilly. This is a preferred time for guided ascents and geological visits for travelers who can handle cold nights.

Ennedi Plateau & Northeast (Fada and rock arch country)

November features crisp mornings and warm afternoons, ideal for early-morning canyon hikes and late-day viewpoints without the extremes of summer or winter. The plateau’s roads and tracks are dry and stable, and the clarity of the air makes long-distance viewing and stargazing a highlight. Plan for quiet camps and bring evening insulation - nights grow noticeably chillier as winter approaches.

Central Sahel & Lake Fitri region (Batha, Abéché fringe)

November enjoys cool, dry days and crisp nights, excellent for long drives and overland crossings that are impractical in the rainy season; campfires and evenings sitting out under the stars are pleasant. Local markets around Abéché bustle as herders move stock and preparations begin for the dry season - a lively cultural time. Bring a sweater for night and early morning chill and expect fewer vehicle disruptions.

Lake Chad & Western Chad (N’Djamena, Lac region, Bol)

November cools further and humidity drops, making evenings pleasant and daytime heat manageable for extended activities; birds congregate on receding mudflats. Roads are largely restored, markets run smoothly, and boat trips to islands are easier where channels have stabilized. Pack layers for cool nights and expect clearer skies for evening walks along the Chari River.

Southern Sudanian Zone & Salamat (Moundou, Sarh, Zakouma area)

November dries out further, offering prime conditions for safaris as animals regroup at permanent water sources and vegetation thins for better viewing. Days are warm and nights cooler; roads are in good condition for game drives and overland transfers. This is one of the best windows to visit Zakouma and southern reserves before the heat and dust build again in the spring.
