Pacific Coast & the Dry Corridor (Guatemala Pacific, El Salvador, Nicaragua Pacific, Costa Rica Pacific-Guanacaste, Nicoya, Manuel Antonio; Panama Pacific beaches like Pedasí & Playa Venao)
Drier winds still hold along the coast and Antigua afternoons feel comparably clement, so many visitors plan beach time and inland volcano treks. Temperatures are warm along the shore while higher-elevation day trips (Volcán de Agua, Rincón de la Vieja) will be noticeably cooler-pack a fleece for dawn hikes. Crowds gather across coastal surf towns and lodging can be tight in popular spots, so book surf lessons and tours in advance.
Caribbean Coast & Bay Islands (Belize coast & Cayes, Honduras Bay Islands Roatán/Utila, Nicaragua Caribbean RAAS, Costa Rica Limon, Panama San Blas & Bocas del Toro)
Late winter offers warm water temperatures and generally settled weather; snorkeling around Belize Barrier Reef and diving near Roatán are both excellent as visibility remains high. Small islands are attractive for boat travel but watch for local festival dates that can swell visitor numbers in towns like San Pedro (Ambergris Caye). Mosquito repellent and a reef-safe sunscreen are smart packing choices even in the drier months.
Highlands & Volcanic Belt (Guatemala Highlands-Antigua, Lake Atitlán, Quetzaltenango; El Salvador & Nicaragua highlands, Costa Rica Central Valley & foothills)
Spring-like conditions and stable weather make this a favorite period for hiking and coffee-region tours around Jinotega (Nicaragua) and the Central Valley (Costa Rica). Daytime temperatures are pleasant for extended treks and visits to Lake Atitlán’s lakeshore villages. Trails remain dry and accessible, so travelers can comfortably explore markets and archaeological sites without rain-driven delays.
Cloud Forests & High-Mountain Reserves (Monteverde, Cerro Chirripó, Costa Rica’s central highlands; Panama’s Boquete & Chiriquí)
March often gives the best combination of clearer skies and still-lush greenery at mid-elevations; coffee estates around these mountains are pleasant to visit and day hikes are generally reliable. Expect cool mornings that warm mildly by noon; cloud cover may still appear but heavy rains are less frequent than later in the year. Travelers should bring waterproof outer layers and good trail shoes for mossy paths.
Belize Mainland & the Barrier Reef (Belize-Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker, inland cayes and mainland)
March remains excellent for underwater visibility and surface conditions, with warm water temperatures encouraging extended dives and long snorkel trips at Hol Chan and the Blue Hole. Tourism infrastructure runs at full capacity and restaurants remain lively; day-trips to the atolls are reliable and scenic. Bring sun protection and consider early-morning departures to avoid the midday heat.
