Pacific Coast & the Dry Corridor (Guatemala Pacific, El Salvador, Nicaragua Pacific, Costa Rica Pacific-Guanacaste, Nicoya, Manuel Antonio; Panama Pacific beaches like Pedasí & Playa Venao)

Late dry-season sunshine and the run-up to Semana Santa makes coastal towns busy; Antigua and other highland towns host intense Holy Week processions so both beach and cultural itineraries see heavy bookings. Afternoon temperatures are very warm on the Pacific plain-think tee shirts and shorts-while dawns in the early volcano trails may be chilly. Expect increased domestic travel and fully booked ferries and surf schools during the long Easter week.

Caribbean Coast & Bay Islands (Belize coast & Cayes, Honduras Bay Islands Roatán/Utila, Nicaragua Caribbean RAAS, Costa Rica Limon, Panama San Blas & Bocas del Toro)

Easter week increases boat and lodging demand across the Bay Islands and San Blas; Antigua-style processions are less a Caribbean feature, but regional Holy Week travel boosts island traffic. Temperatures are very warm, and shade is at a premium on exposed beaches-plan early-morning snorkel trips and late-afternoon relaxation. Reef operators often fill up; booking dives or island-hopping ahead is recommended.

Highlands & Volcanic Belt (Guatemala Highlands-Antigua, Lake Atitlán, Quetzaltenango; El Salvador & Nicaragua highlands, Costa Rica Central Valley & foothills)

Easter-week festivities bring a surge of domestic and international visitors to colonial highland towns, which can make hotels expensive and streets crowded in places like Antigua. Morning walks remain crisp and rewarding, and late-afternoon clouds may start to gather at higher elevations later in the month as the transition toward the wet season begins. Bring layers and expect busy transport routes during Holy Week.

Cloud Forests & High-Mountain Reserves (Monteverde, Cerro Chirripó, Costa Rica’s central highlands; Panama’s Boquete & Chiriquí)

April can bring the first sustained increase in humidity and intermittent afternoon showers, yet many days still start clear and birdwatching can be rewarding. Mountain roads into Chiriquí and Monteverde may begin to show wet-season potholes so allow extra travel time. Temperatures remain cool; if planning an overnight on Cerro Chirripó, reserve a sleeping bag and arrange permits early as demand rises before the wetter months.

Belize Mainland & the Barrier Reef (Belize-Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker, inland cayes and mainland)

April sees comfortable sea temperatures and a steady uptick in tourists approaching Easter vacation-many lodges raise rates and boats are busy. Residual cool breezes make snorkel trips pleasant, but water clarity can vary after seasonal plankton changes. If traveling during Semana Santa expect crowds on small islands and limited last-minute availability-book activities in advance.
