How to Get to Wundanyi

Wundanyi is a town in Kenya's Taita-Taveta County best reached by road; Nairobi and Mombasa are the nearest major transport hubs. Overland travel by matatu, coach or private transfer is the practical option for most visitors.

By Air

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi (NBO): Nairobi is the main international gateway for visitors to Wundanyi and Taita-Taveta County. Overland from Nairobi the drive to Wundanyi is long (commonly 5-7+ hours) and often done by road rather than air.

Local airstrips / charter: Small airstrips in the region are occasionally used for charter flights to game lodges, but there are no regular scheduled commercial flights to Wundanyi itself; most visitors arrive by road from Mombasa or Nairobi.

By Train & Bus

Train: Kenya’s standard passenger rail services do not serve Wundanyi.

Bus / Matatu: Matatus and intercounty buses run between Mombasa, Voi, Taveta and towns in Taita-Taveta including Wundanyi. Travel times vary; from Mombasa the road trip commonly takes 2-4 hours depending on service and route. Matatus are frequent but can be crowded; coaches are more comfortable for longer legs.

How to Get Around Wundanyi #

Wundanyi’s centre is easily explored on foot and local trips are commonly done by walking or boda-boda (motorbike taxi). Matatus connect Wundanyi with other towns in Taita-Taveta County; vehicle hire or taxis are useful for visiting surrounding highland attractions and farms.
