How to Get to Takaungu

Takaungu is a coastal village north of Mombasa; the practical approach is by road from Mombasa (MBA) or via local buses/matatus to Kilifi and then a short taxi/boda-boda ride. There is no direct rail link.

By Air

Moi International Airport (MBA): The nearest international airport to Takaungu is Mombasa’s Moi International (MBA). From MBA the road transfer to Takaungu (Kilifi County) is about 1-1.5 hours by car depending on traffic and route. Malindi Airport (MYD): Malindi is farther north and offers limited scheduled services; travel from Malindi to Takaungu is longer (1.5-2.5 hours) by road.

By Train & Bus

Train: Kenya’s standard-gauge railway (SGR) serves Mombasa-Nairobi but does not serve Takaungu directly. Bus / Matatu: Matatus and county buses run from Mombasa toward Kilifi and Malindi; disembark at Kilifi or close to Takaungu and take a boda-boda or local taxi for the final few kilometres.

How to Get Around Takaungu #

Takaungu village is compact and pleasant to explore on foot. For trips to Kilifi, Malindi or other towns, look for local matatu minibuses and shared taxis that run irregularly from nearby junctions. Boat trips and bikes are options for short coastal movements; services can be informal, so confirm schedules locally and allow extra travel time.
