Moi International Airport (MBA) - Mombasa (Kenya): For Taveta, many travellers fly into Moi International (Mombasa) or Jomo Kenyatta (NBO) in Nairobi and continue by road. From Mombasa the road journey to Taveta is long (several hours) and usually requires an overnight stop en route.
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) - Nairobi: Nairobi is a common arrival point. From Nairobi you can travel by road to Taveta (around 6-8+ hours depending on route) or combine a domestic flight to nearby airfields (schedules are limited) and then a road transfer.
Train: Kenya’s passenger rail network does not provide a direct service to Taveta. The modern Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway links the two cities but road transfer is still needed for Taveta.
Bus / Matatu: Long-distance buses and matatus (shared minibuses) operate from Nairobi and Mombasa toward the Taita-Taveta area. Expect long journeys with variable frequency; privately run coach services to nearby larger towns are more comfortable and reliable than local matatus for long distances.

- Shared minivan / matatu (KES 300-1,200 (approx.)) - Matatus are frequent and cheap for regional travel but less comfortable for very long trips; they depart when full and often stop en route. Good for flexible local travellers comfortable with local conditions.
- Taxi / private transfer (KES 6,000-15,000/day (approx.)) - Hiring a private car with driver is recommended for groups or if you need schedule certainty - it’s faster and more comfortable than public options but costs more. Useful for direct transfers from airports or major towns.
- Motorbike taxi / boda-boda (KES 50-300 per trip) - In rural towns boda-bodas are common for short distances; use caution and a helmet where available. They’re quick for last-mile trips but riskier than cars.
- Car hire (KES 3,500-8,000/day (approx.)) - Self-drive options are limited outside major cities; if available, a 4x4 is advisable for rural roads, especially in rainy season.
