Wat Chedi Sao
Temple Temple with 25 chedis and historic murals
Wat Chedi Sao is a temple in the Sukhothai area known for its distinctive arrangement of multiple small stupas. The name literally refers to the group of chedis that form the temple’s most notable feature.
The site’s principal visual highlight is the line of 20 small stupas arranged in two rows, built in the Sukhothai architectural tradition and commonly photographed by visitors. The cluster sits within the broader historic landscape of Sukhothai-era religious sites.
The temple complex dates to the Sukhothai period, broadly the 13th to 14th centuries, and forms part of the network of religious monuments associated with the old Sukhothai capital. It remains a visible example of the region’s historic stupa-building tradition.
Located inside the Sukhothai historic area, the site is set within the flat, archaeological plain of northern-central Thailand.
- Twenty chedis: Comprises a row of twenty small stupas arranged in two parallel lines, which gives the site its name.
