How to Get to Vievis#
Vievis is easiest reached via Vilnius - Vilnius Airport (VNO) is the closest international airport and Vilnius railway/bus stations provide frequent regional connections. For most visitors the fastest route is flight into Vilnius, then a short road transfer to Vievis.
Vilnius Airport (VNO): Vilnius Airport is the closest major airport (about 30-35 km east of Vievis). From VNO you can take the airport bus to Vilnius city centre (buy a ticket for ~€1.50-€2; 20-25 min to the centre) and then a regional bus or taxi to Vievis (regional bus ~€2-3, 35-45 min from Vilnius centre; taxi from Vilnius centre to Vievis ~€25-35, ~30-40 min).
Kaunas Airport (KUN): Kaunas Airport is further away (about 65-75 km). There are direct coaches from KUN to Kaunas city and to Vilnius; expect coach + regional connection to Vievis to take ~1-1.5 hours in total. Coach to Vilnius typically costs ~€6-8, then add the regional link to Vievis (see above).
Train: The nearest major rail hub is Vilnius railway station (Vilnius stotis). Intercity and regional trains serve Vilnius; from Vilnius you can catch local buses toward Vievis. Trains to Vilnius from elsewhere in Lithuania typically cost €2-€10 depending on distance; the onward connection to Vievis is by bus (35-45 min).
Bus: Regional buses run from Vilnius Bus Station (Autobusų stotis) to Vievis several times a day. Typical one-way fares are modest - around €1.50-€3 - and travel time from Vilnius is about 35-45 minutes. Local taxis and ride-hail services are available from Vilnius if you prefer a direct door-to-door transfer (see prices under By Air).
How to Get Around Vievis#
Vievis is most conveniently reached via Vilnius (airport and main rail/bus hub). For day-to-day travel the regional bus or a taxi from Vilnius works best; renting a car is helpful if you plan to explore beyond the town.
- Regional bus (Vilnius-Vievis) (€1.50-€3) - Frequent regional buses run between Vilnius Bus Station and Vievis. They are the cheapest practical option and take roughly 35-45 minutes from Vilnius. Buy tickets at the station or from the driver; buses are simple and reliable but can be less frequent on Sundays.
- Taxi / Ride-hail (€25-€45) - Taxis or app-based rides from Vilnius centre or the airport are the most convenient door-to-door option. Expect a fixed fare of around €25-35 from Vilnius city centre or roughly €30-45 from Vilnius Airport. Useful for luggage or late arrivals.
- Car hire (€25+/day (rental)) - Hiring a car at Vilnius Airport gives flexibility to explore the surrounding countryside and reach Vievis directly (about 25-35 minutes). Fuel and parking are additional costs; roads are good and navigation is straightforward. Recommended if you plan side trips in the region.
- Train to Vilnius + bus (€2-€10 (train) + €1.50-€3 (bus)) - If you’re arriving by train to Vilnius, transfer to the regional bus terminal for services to Vievis. Combined train + bus is economical and useful if you travel across Lithuania by rail. Expect the combined transfer to take about 45-75 minutes depending on connections.
- Cycling - Vievis and the surrounding area are flat and bike-friendly for short distances; many visitors cycle locally in fair weather. Not ideal for arriving with heavy luggage but good for local exploration.
- Walking - Vievis is a small town best explored on foot once you arrive - most services and sights are within easy walking distance of the centre.
