Northern Highlands (Sapa, Ha Giang, Lao Cai)

November brings cool, dry air down from Siberia and the highlands start to feel winterlike at night, with temperatures often dropping to single digits and clear, starry skies after cold mornings. Rice terraces may be post-harvest and colours shift to a more muted palette, but some remote loops are pleasantly quiet. Pack warm layers for evenings and an insulating sleeping bag if camping or staying in basic hill‑tribe accommodations.

Hanoi & Red River Delta

November brings crisp mornings and cooler evenings with a dry, bright atmosphere that many travelers find ideal for urban strolls and nearby excursions. Daytime highs often stay around 20-22°C while nights drop to the low teens; smog is less likely than in deep winter. This is a prime time to combine cultural sightseeing with short trips to rural villages, though air can feel chilly without a sweater in the evening.

Central Coast (Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang)

December is cool, breezy and mostly dry - a fine month for exploring Da Nang’s beaches, Hoi An’s old town and mountain passes like Hai Van without excessive heat. Daytime highs are comfortable, often in the low 20s°C; nights can be cooler, especially inland and on the steps of the Marble Mountains. Expect weekend crowds at popular beaches, but overall travel is straightforward and sea conditions are usually calm for island excursions.
